Travel to the Gobi Desert to attend the "Thousand Camel Festival," organized by a local non-governmental organization working to protect and preserve the Bactrian camel population, which has been steadily declining over the past thirteenth years.
The festival held close to Dalandzadgad celebrates the Bactian two-humped camel that plays an important role in the life of the Gobi nomad which is in beginning of March.
Over 1000 camels are gathered at the festival. Highlights of the festival include a camel race, a camel polo match. Traditional Mongolian musicians and dancers offer great performances at the festival.
